At first, I would like to draw your attention to some organisations which are dedicated to progress in science, technology, and research.
The Association of German Engineers (VDI, "Verein Deutscher Ingenieure") is one of the largest technical-scientific associations in Europe. Throughout the years, the VDI has successfully expanded its activities nationally and internationally committing itself to foster and impart knowledge about technology related issues. As a financially independent, politically unaffiliated and non-profit organization the VDI is recognized as the representative of engineers both within the profession and in public with almost 150,000 personal members over a third of which are students and junior engineers under the age of 33.
The Gesellschaft frü Informatik e.V. (GI) is a non-profit organization with about 24,000 members living across the world. Most of them develop the discipline of informatics by teaching, researching or working in the field of informatics, while others are involved in related business and political areas. The main purposes of this network of professionals are motivate for informatics, develop the scientific discipline and promote the impact informatics has economy, business and society. In times of ever-growing importance and influence of an integrated Europe, GI is increasingly involved in European projects and organizations.
IEEE, pronounced "Eye-triple-E", stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. IEEE is the worlds largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE's highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.
Next to my membership in these technical organisations I would like to draw your attention to the following:
The "Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger" (DGzRS, means "The German Maritime Rescue Service") focuses on promotion and maintaining an efficient maritime search and rescue (SAR) service in the German coastal waters and on the high seas, to support the ideal of altruistic commitment to saving human lives at sea and thereby promoting the international solidarity by human action.
The "Hamburger Spendenparlament" (means "Hamburg Parliament of Donations") which is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation collectiong charitable donations in order to promote projects against poverty and homelessness in Hamburg.
